HRL Publisher Barbara Godwin on a once-in-a-lifetime ride in Versailles, France

This letter is dedicated to positive change, whether it be the wild horses of America or the people and the horses of Ukraine.  May we all remember that people are people and horses are horses, no matter their geographical location.  They deserve to run free and without consequences brought by on by other nations.

Greetings to all! HRL is celebrating March 2022 with Everything Irish…a tribute to St Patrick’s Day and those Americans of Irish descent, whose ancestors immigrated to this country seeking a better way of life.

The United States of America is a melting pot of ethnicity, its history deeply rooted by those having the courage and imagination to change their lives while distancing themselves from everything they knew, including their loved ones and their heritage.

They came to a promised land. They came to America. By doing so, immigrants contributed  to our countries future and helped the USA to become one of the most diverse and powerful nations in the world. It didn’t happen overnight, and at times became a rocky road.

While change (positive or negative) is inevitable, a constant flow of irresponsibility – whether through ignorance or greed – will eventually erode the rock this country was built on. We can’t let that happen. Positive social and environmental change only happens when citizens have empathy and dedication to the cause, whatever it may be.

One instance is the protection of wild horses, with AWHC recently releasing numbers showing 88% of voters regardless of political party believe in the native equines protection which means ending the wild horse roundups.  Yet endless petitions and decades later wild horse protection is in jeopardy, now more than ever.

It is time for all to unite and demand change.  To dedicate ourselves to the cause.

Lastly, the recent invasion of Ukraine – tragic for all  who inhabit that locale, human, plant or animal – should never have happened. Europe is still reaping repercussions from World War II; war should no longer be considered a viable solution, and those creating it should be held accountable. The invasion did not happen overnight, nor will the devastation be erased in our lifetime.

Horses as well as other zoological species were almost completely eradicated in certain war zones during the last century. Movements have taken place to preserve historic breeds (such as the Samogitian in Lithuania)…but unfortunately ,history is repeating itself.

Yet, one positive note has arisen from the invasion of Ukraine: unification.  People all over the world are standing up for the people of Ukraine and offering support.  While it may or may not alter the outcome , it is a sign of positive change.

It offers hope.

This letter is dedicated to positive change, whether it be the wild horses of America or the people and the horses of Ukraine.  May we all remember that people are people and horses are horses, no matter their geographical location.  They deserve to run free and without consequences brought by on by other nations.

So enjoy March, St. Patrick’s Day, and celebrate the Irish contribution to our country – whether Irish Cowboys or green beer, there is a lot to enjoy!

God Bless America.
