Headlining this special edition is an extensive illustrated equestrian biography which documents Queen Elizabeth’s life in the saddle beginning in 1931 and ending in 2022.
I am also proud to reveal the creation and publication of the extensive Shakespeare Equestrian Collection.
In keeping with the celebration of all things royal, the renowned English equestrian historian Dr. Paula Sells wrote a fascinating article revealing the history of the royal stables. Joining the HRL team is Scottish Long Rider Louis Hall. Young, empathetic and intuitive, he writes about his Journey Across the Heart of Europe.
The entire December publication of Horse & Rider Living is unprecedented and as the publisher, I am proud to be part of this event.
Merry Christmas!
Tis the season to be jolly but it is also a time of reflection as the year’s end rapidly descends upon us.
As all years past, 2022 has been one of tumultuous events, terror, and sadness along with moments of joy and hope for a more positive future; the everyday ups and downs of life, and for many the beginning or the end of their own destiny.
One of the saddest yet most heralded events of 2022 was the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for more than 70 years leaving a legacy not only as a queen in power, but as a powerful woman, mother, and horse enthusiast. An avid horsewoman, Queen Elizabeth continued to ride until her final year of passing at age 96.
HRL is proud to present December’s 2022 publication of the Royal Shakespeare issue.
Headlining this special edition is an extensive illustrated equestrian biography which documents Queen Elizabeth’s life in the saddle beginning in 1931 and ending in 2022.

It took more than five years to complete this intensive examination that documents how horses deeply influenced the personal and professional life of England’s most famous author, William Shakespeare. Her Majesty was the first to inspect this treasure trove.
Queen Elizabeth acknowledged the importance of the SEC while she was resting at Balmoral Castle three weeks before she passed away. The 300 plus page SEC contains an outstanding collection of academics articles and a groundbreaking study which poses the question, “Was William Shakespeare a Long Rider?”
To be or not to be, a Long Rider, who knew?
In keeping with the celebration of all things royal, the renowned English equestrian historian Dr. Paula Sells wrote a fascinating article revealing the history of the royal stables. Plus Long-Rider Bonnie Folkins reviewed the remarkable book, The Tack Room, which documents Great Britain’s diverse equestrian history. I am honored to see these elegant and educational articles in a HRL publication.
Joining the HRL team is Scottish Long Rider Louis Hall. Young, empathetic and intuitive, he writes about his Journey Across the Heart of Europe and gives us a perspective of the psychological importance of the horse and rider connection. We hope to welcome Louis to the United States in 2023, when he intends to ride “ocean to ocean” from Florida’s Atlantic to California’s Pacific, a journey which will be closely followed in future editions of HRL.
The entire December publication of Horse & Rider Living is unprecedented and as the publisher, I am proud to be part of this event.
We at HRL hope that you enjoy our year-end contribution to the equestrian world; and thank you to those participating in our ever-expanding magazine!
May you all have the best of Holidays, and I look forward to bringing more informative, incredible, and exciting adventures to the pages of HRL in 2023!
